Verbal-linguistic intelligence:

the use of language; the ability to read, write or talk to others

Для дітей з вербально-лінгвістичним інтелектом притаманні такі риси як розвинене відчуття мови та стилю; вміння слухати та бажання поділитися історіями з власного досвіду; прагнення вести щоденник, писати оповідання; наявність вродженої грамотності; захоплення іграми зі словами (ребуси, кросворди, шаради); розвинена пам'ять стосовно деталей тексту, здатність відтворити текст; гарні ораторські здібності тощо. Вербально-лінгвістичний інтелект включає всі форми роботи з мовою, до яких, зокрема, можна віднести здатність читати, писати, уміння виступати з офіційною промовою перед аудиторією та вести неофіційні бесіди з друзями; крім того, це вміння слухати інших людей та розуміти, що вони говорять або намагаються передати. Методи, які найчастіше використовуються для розвитку цього виду інтелекту, надзвичайно різноманітні та завжди пов’язані з мовним матеріалом: різні види читання, проведення дискусій, дебатів та круглих столів, переказ прослуханого чи прочитаного, розв’язання кросвордів, опис в писемному та усному мовленні, ведення портфоліо, написання дослідницької праці тощо.

1. Compare the photographs and comment
a)  Look at the photographs A and B. Compare the photographs and say how you think the people feel. You can use some of the words and expressions in the boxes.

2. Complete the spidergram

3. Surprise me! (vocabulary practice)

The cards with topical vocabulary are put in a bag. Each learner picks a word and makes a surprising sentence. Alternatively, the students can discuss their words in groups and create surprising sentences together.

e.g.

A little red bag was walking slowly along the street.

A lot of dolls sang a loud song yesterday, etc.

4. Mind maps for writing

The teacher shows the picture and writes the title on the board TIGERS. The whole class gives the suggestions to complete the mind map.

Once the map is finished, the children are to build a text. Taking turns, children are chosen to be class secretaries and suggest own sentences on the basis of the mind map.

As a follow-up, children can construct a similar mind map in pairs for a different animal and then write an independent text.
